    Hi All,

I have the coming week off from work and the better half has given the all clear for me to spend the week golfing :) Lucky me!
So weather permitting, am hoping to get in 3/4 rounds probably Monday to Friday. Looking for good budget courses within reasonable driving distance from South Dublin.

Haven't played a great variety of courses so am going with what i know for the moment.

    Current thoughts are:
    Monday- Roundwood €20
    Wednesday- Lisheen Springs €20
    Friday- Moyvalley €15-25

Could anyone recommend an additional course or maybe even a completely different schedule?

    Thanks!

If your willing to drive to Moyvalley, try Rathcore. Its €20 a round i think atm and a great little track.

Geez a round on a links would be tempting- had a look at Corballis- is Arklow a better bet?

Both great options, Corballis not too easy from South Side.

Arklow a great links and a good intro to Links. Corballis is for mad people who like blind shots. It is a lovely little course, but you would need to play it with someone first time.

I'd say Arklow ( It must be only 25 minutes down M11 ? ) Good price too. All holes are fairly straight forward.

Really appreciate that info FixdePitchmark. Think I might pen myself in for a round there. Greystones actually looks great too.
Now for the rain to stay away..!

I'm not from the south side , so not the best man.

But they are two great courses I've played. If you want to go into the 40 euro area, it is a whole new world over there. Into Druids Heat etc.

Midweek at Rathsallagh has got to be cheap. It's a fine course, much better than some of the bigger names in your bucket area.

Yea, as an example a friend of mine took me for a spin up to Dun Laoghaire where he is a member and was blown away by the facilities and the condition of the course. I might try justifying paying that scale of green fees in the future if the handicap starts to come down (only started taking golf a bit more seriously this year).

    Hi,
The links Portmarnock if you can get it for a decent rate. This time of year i'd play links if i had the choice as most of the parkland courses are a bit wet, although Roganstown is very dry at the moment which would be another good option. Corballis is also a good option that a couple more have suggested. Not sure if u have a gui handicap but if you have maybe have a look at the opens on.

Just make sure you are not forced into dropping off the fairways on the links...

Rathsallagh..Good course, good value. If you want to make a trip of it, continue on to Mount Wolsely, a really top top course and should be deals on the hotel.

Macreddin..Second best course I've played this year-great nick and only 20 euro on an early bird.

Old Conna, if they aren't on temporary greens.

Wicklow-I'm biased as I'm a member, but in the best nick it's been in for a decade.

Played Druids Heath this week and whilst it is a beast of a course when the wind blows, the greens were LIGHTNING. 25 euro midweek. Druids Glen is 45 euro and well worth it.

Woodbrook-one of my favorite courses on the Southside.

The best till last...Killeen Castle. Awesome course, fab facilities, best 50 euro you will spend all year. Get there early, have a coffee and make use of the practice facilities.

And with the best, a quick tip..Avoid St Margarets like the plague. It was like a swamp last week, cruddy greens, no discernible difference between the rough and the fairways and about 4 and a half million leaves around the course. Very disappointing progress over the last few years. Losing balls on a fairway is a very strange feeling!

Have a great week! We might see you in Wicklow:)

Fair play- really appreciate the insights- i've a lot to learn but looking forward to doing that

^ Killeen greens were pole forked about 2 weeks ago, so you might want to leave it another couple of weeks before going there.
It kinda ruined it a bit when we played it.

Also, we were delayed 2 hours starting due to fog and it was mentioned that it does happen this time of year. We started at 12 and barely got the 18 holes in. Lovely course though.

Haven't played it before, but one if the courses on my must play at the moment is woodenbridge. Supposed to be a cracker of a course, and shouldn't be a million mileage from you. Have had a lot of people recommend it to me

Played it 2 weeks ago in a pro-am. In great condition for time of year. Not sure what the green fee is but probably around €25-€30 midweek. Recommended.

Yep. 30 midweek. Fairways in great condition for time of year. Greens in great nick. Scenery amazing and very accessible via the M3. Great value.

Edit: I'd get suspicious if my Mrs told me I could take the whole week to go golfing....you sure there wont be a massive Christmas shopping bill waiting as you walk off the last on Friday evening :-)))

I hope the weather improves a bit for you:rolleyes:

Played Wicklow yesterday and it was in superb shape. Dry as a bone.

Playing partners had been in Arklow and Woodenbridge and were both impressed.

So just an update- got out Monday, Wednesday and Friday- really lucky with the weather.

    Monday- Lisheen Springs €20
    Wednesday- Arklow €25
    Friday- Druids Heath €25

Was planning to get either Greystones or Wicklow in today but both closed on Thursday so went ahead with the Heath.

Lisheen is a grand track- very dry for the weather we had- booked last minute Monday lunchtime as was looking at the hourly weather forecast and there was a pleasant dry gap in the afternoon that i took advantage of.

Arklow- single most enjoyable round i have ever played. Was a real joy to be out on the course on a lovely warm (relatively speaking) afternoon. On one or two holes i felt like i could have been playing Waterville. Really welcoming feeling about the place both in the club house and around the course (the Green Keeper let out a cheer when i putted from around 20 feet on the 1st!) :D Thank you FixDePitchmark for the recommendation- i will definitely have to get down there again soon.

Druids Heath- Well set up course- the greens were wicked fast- putted nothing all day. Played 15 holes as caught behind a four ball and three ball when i got to the 12th so skipped 13, 14 and 15.

€70 for a very enjoyable weeks golf. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction and giving me other courses to try in the not too distant future...

Only played it yesterday. It's a great track but not great condition right now. It was really wet, the bunkers were in rag order and should have been gur. Visit it another time!

Were the bunkers bad just because of the rain? It's 2 weeks since I played it but they were in great nick that day. As were the fairways and greens. Lots of torrential rain since then though I guess.....
