childcare work

Hi just wondering if anyone could help me? I am trained in social care have a degree and 4 years experience working with children. I am trying to find a job and in the current climate am even trying to do childcare positions which are not related to social care, however, I am continuosly getting replys stating I cant work there as I dont have a fetac in childcare.

As you may understand this is very frustrating as I have a higher qualification and alot of experience, I am just wondering is anyone finding this? or if anyone knows how to get your qualification acessed to have something which says this is ok to work within childcare too?

the new legislation states you need a minimum of fetac level 5 therefore a social care degree is fine but i need a piece of paper which says this as I am sick of being unemployed and can clearly work within a creche but stupid fetac is holding me back from doing so.

I really dont want to have to go back to study below my degree and for the amount of money the fetac courses cost. I have recently done an sna fetac just to keep busy and was shocked at how easy it was and that this is better than a degree also!!!

i would be greatful if anyone can help or is in a similar situation.

    Regards :)

You degree is is social care - not in early childhood education. Your very "care" rather than "education" focus should be enough to explain to the difference between the qualifications to you.

Hopefully there is someone who can assess your existing qualification to see what parts of an ECE qualification you can be exempted from - sorry I don't know who does this.

But I wouldn't be surprised if there's less overlap than you expect.

Yes that is the case to people who dont really understand social care , however, the actual course has the same subjects within them and further to this I have the experience.

Thank you for your help, I am sure you can understand my frustration as I have recently done some volunteer work in a preschool with staff who had no qualification ie ce scheme and i was more experienced than them yet i cant get a job due to not having a "fetac"
