Can you give me your top links for a light ultrabook (max 1.3ish kg)? Any suggestions are welcome...excluding HP, Sony Vaio and the Toshiba (z830, I think).

    Budget?

800 would be the max but it would be great if I could get something even around the 700 mark.

Also, this will be my main laptop and an investment for a number of years.

I was looking at laptops with SSD but they can get quite pricey. I looked at Lenovo this moring but the Ideapad U410 weighs in at around 1.8kg.

You're asking an awful lot imo.

I would be thinking that you're not going to get a machine, that falls into your very specific requirements for your low budget.

I have an Asus UX32a, should come with in budget, is nice, do a search on this forum, i've made a few posts regarding it.

Not too sure how much it actually weighs, but it's light.

    I know :o

I just googled the Asus and it is around 1.5kg which is definitely a lot better than the 1.8 of many of them.

The Toshiba is lovely and the only thing stopping me from buying it is the reviews on the internet that talk of a "mushy" keyboard that flexes as you type, as well as some other keyboard issuesI'm still tempted to get it though...

It's quite a good price too. I think perhaps I should stop reading internet reviews, as there are always going to be negative comments. I mean, in spite of the keyboard issue, the same people gave it relatively high marks.

The Asus seems to be higher in price. It's very nice though...

Does anyone have any experience of a Sony T13 or a Samsung 530U3B SERIES 5 Ultrabook? How do you find the keyboard...?

The Sony T13 seems to complain about performance, "Performance isn't great, with a Sandy Bridge CPU used in order to keep the cost down. You'll have no bother with the day-to-day basics, but try to push the Sony Vaio T13 beyond the likes of browsing"??

The Thinkpad x220. Im using one right now and I love it.

Small, light, but still has the power of a grown up laptop.

If you would consider a MacBook and knew someone in the states an 11 inch air would do the job nicely

Thanks, Jimmy. However, I'm not fond of the Macbook.

I think I will go with the Sony T13 as shown here http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Sony_VAIO_T13_13.3_Core_i5_Windows_7_Laptop_in_Silver__SVT1311X9ES/version.asp#feedback

Can anyone tell be whether it is Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge, as I don't quite understand...

The review suggests that reviewed version of the T13 has Sandy Bridge is old and not good for performance. What about this Sony Vaio?
