Joomla error 500

    I have a friend who is developing a website and when they try o upload a file using Joomla it goes to 99% and then fails, with error 500 any ideas what could be causing this or solution sound

    First step should be to look at the error_log.

    Dont have access to error log at mo, any ideas of what it may be causing it any experience of this particular error

    impossible to know what's going wrong without seeing error_log or code.

    my most educated guess would be the directory that joomla is trying to write to is unwritable but that shouldn't really throw a 50x error.
