Why is the Evening Herald out on the shelves at 9.30 AM Saturday morning?

I was in town this morning at 9.30 getting my breakfast and noticed today's edition of the Evening Herald on the shelves at various newsagents.

I thought that this was supposed to be an evening paper.

Thinks it's only "Evening" by name only, there's 2 versions of it every day, the "National" one is the early one that goes all around the country and the "City Final" one is the one published after 3ish or so in Dublin and surrounding area's.

Dosn't really answer your question though

My money is on them getting sales nationwide.

The Saturday edition is actually called the Weekend Herald, not the Evening Herald. It generally doesn't sell that well as most people realise it comes in that morning with the other papers and get the Indo instead.

Why are you surprised at this? Since the Sunday World started printing early to get the papers into the pubs on Saturday evenings, anything goes. I remember one year when Christmas Day fell on a Sunday, it didn't stop the Sindo published a special edition (called the 'Sunday Independent') on Christmas Eve (Saturday)!

Actually its called the Weekend Herald so that it can be audited separately - seen in the eyes of the ABC as a different product. They ceased auditing it in 2010 and the Evening Herald figure now is Monday to Friday only. The weekend edition isn't a great seller - I think the last audit for the Saturday edition was about 38k.
