Accommodation in Japan for college students?

    Ok, so I'm a third year college student, and a lot of my friends are going over to America for a few months this summer. I've decided I'm not interested, and my girlfriend and I would like to spend the summer in Japan, perhaps Kyoto, or nearby, for 2-3 months.

    Does anyone have any input on good forms of accommodation to look at? Obviously, we are students, and so would be looking for reasonably priced/low priced accommodation.

    Honestly, any input at all would be great!!
