    I usually just hold the tube to my lip and move it around 'till I feel the leak. That way it stays dry and I can get right on with fixing it without looking for a marker.

    I've normally used a ball tipped pen.

    Seems to work fine
    before you roughen up the surface
    and then apply the rubber solution
    and then the patch
    and then pressure set the patch
    and then apply a dusting of talc
