Hi all, I have an 06 1.6tdci ford focus (with dpf). I had the MIL show up a few weeks ago along with "engine systems failure" ! Brought it to my mechanic, had diagnostics on it, replaced EGR valve, replaced throttle position sensor, and topped up the fuel additive tank. Now the "engine systems failure" warning has gone, but the MIL is still there, had diagnostics on again and it said "EGR Sensor A circuit low". I brought the car to my local ford dealer before topping up the fuel additive tank, they recomended topping up and all would be fine, I am still stuck with this fault and a permanent MIL! I have searched online for this fault and I'm seeing alot about wiring (5 volt supply circuit) and that some cars have been in for re-calls for wiring, any advice or help would be great, thanks!

Any idea what the exact fault code is?

Do you know what sort of scantool it was read with (some scantools have a problem resolving Ford-specfic codes between P1000 and P1999)

When the EGR was replaced, was all of the associated pipework cleaned out as well?

When you switch off the engine, can you hear a whining / chattering noise that lasts a few seconds?

Went to open the bonnet yesterday to check the wiring, EGR valve unplugged!!! The ford garage never plugged it back in! Rang them and they were full sure they never even opened the bonnet! Clueless idiots! Anyway I plugged it in, brought the car up to my buddy (mechanic) plugged in the diagnostics, fault was gone! MIL light gone, car going fine! Thanks for the reply!

Hi Shamrock841, have ford focus 07, driving home today when it lost all power and coasted to a stop(not fun on the motorway!). the engine light and oil light were on red. turned ignition and drove away fine. just wondering if you think this may be same problem as you had. am clueless when it comes to cars and only bought car in march off private dealer so am hoping its not a big problem. any advice appreciated

    Hi lazorgirl
Is the car still running ok? Are the still lights on the dash? Diesel or petrol car? Mileage? any other previous problems?

Your best bet would be to bring it to a garage or a ford dealer and get them to plug in their diagnostics and see what the fault codes are, ask the mechanic to write down the fault codes and post them on here, I got a lot of help of the members on here and take it from there!

thanks Shamrock841 ; car running ok now, both lights still on red though; its petrol, 260000km;replaced timing belt in july; constantly replacing headlights, they seem to blow if i use front windscreen defroster; will bring to mechanic tomorrow and post fault codes later.

I'm not 100% sure on this but these cars are being recalled for wiring issues, I had to ring my local ford dealer and ask them, mine is an 06, give them the reg and they will tell you. I would advise getting it seen to asap.

    Whats MIL?

My missis has the 08 1.6 TDCI and a few weeks ago it lost power at around 2k revs and had to restart for it to move out of limp mode and drive correctly.
Mate replaced the engine sensor and it seemed to have solved the issue but she reckons that around 3k revs every now and again, especially when its cold, that it goes into limp again.

Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) or engine managment light. I'm not a mechanic but I give everything a go myself before forking out for labour. Get it plugged into diagnostics would be your best bet and take it from there! Mileage? The EGR valve tend to clog up quite fast in these, might be it! Any previous problems with the car?

I for one will never buy a ford again due to the lack of interest and help I got from various ford dealers who didnt want to know about my engine trouble, sure one main dealer even tried to tell me that my car didnt have a diesel particle filter (DPF) a week after I topped up the tank for it MYSELF!

Not a bean wrong with it, I don't know if its a DPF, any way of telling or is it marked on the car by any chance?

I replaced the EGR valve in my own motor 2 years ago but the weather was -12 at the time, I am suspicious of it on this also.

Ford garages and me don't get on well, just rip of merchants as far I am concerned.

The tank is located underneath the car by the fuel tank on the rear axle beam, its a 2 and a half litre tank, you cant visualy inspect it so tap it and see if it sounds empty I suppose!

(Ford garages and me don't get on well, just rip of merchants as far I am concerned.)

Out of the 5 main dealers I went to in cork, 4 were rude arrogant and didnt care less! The 5th were the nicest people ever, the mechanics were extremely informative and helpfull, I would go back there if I ever have a ford again (doubtfull) !

Whats the mileage on your car?
