Have checked the course guide thread but can't see a mention of this place.

Playing next Friday and just wondering if any posters can give me some idea of what to expect? Long, short, open, tight etc.

Any comments at all are appreciated.

    Thanks

It is a nice old small golf course, watch yourself out there. No day dreaming. But this time of year you should be ok. It is too small a piece of land for 18 , so not liked by some.

It is a grand place showing what golf courses were like in the good old days. Nice clubhouse.

Number 12 is a great hole and was better I hear, when green was on top level at back.

The problem is a good few holes are very alike. It will be PW/9 iron all day for a big hitter into par 4s. The only par 5 , the last is reachable in 2.
A good drive and low iron.

You could reach number 1 - but don't - hit whatever you hit 200 yrd to and PW/9iron in for your par to start.

Number 2 OB, right - Good hole, long and under trees if slightly left.
Number 3 , just hit something to 220 yrds again.
    Number 4, nice par 3
Number 5, Good par 4. Just a straight drive
Number 6 great par 3. Hole a good bit below, I tend to overclub here.

I could go on , but most holes are fairly straight. Just try reach rhs of plateau on 12.

14 is a trickey dog leg, hit an iron over mounds.

So a tight small track, watch yourself.

But, I think the place gets a bit too much stick. It would be a fine course to play for a quick and easy round.

Really? I'd say it is one of the poorest holes i've ever played, anywhere. Very Mickey Mouse.

You have to hit two great shots to hit the green.
The tee shot is one of the few demanding tee shot on the course. That and 14.
I like it. You must hit a tee shot to a green size area and then judge a very difficult drop. I like odd holes like that.

    Thanks for the replies.

onlyfinewine, I had already had a quick look on the club website but I am inclined to take what's written about courses on an official website with a pinch of salt :)

It's a charity event I'm playing at so I would imagine the place will be busy so I'll certainly have my wits about me walking around.

FdP, the place certainly won't be getting any stick from me. I am getting the day off to bring clients out for a round so even if it was a ploughed field, it's nice just to get a day away from the desk. Getting paid for it is an added bonus!

It is very far from a ploughed field, greens a bit bumpy last time, but very mature solid greens.

Have a good one, great day off for that.

FFS! I'm in work now trying to get a few things done before next week. I won't get paid for this. You're going golfing during the week and getting paid for it. I don't begrudge it to you, but by j€sus I do wonder about what I'm doing wrong sometimes.

I had to walk to the bank a couple of months ago. 20 minutes each way, one of the nicest days of the year. That had me in a good mood for all of that day and actually made me smile the next day any time I thought about it. I still think it's great that I got paid to go for a walk in beautiful weather, but I can't even imagine how I'd feel if I got paid to play golf.

I can assure you it's very much a once off and most definitely not a regular occurrence!

Played this morning and couldn't have had a nicer morning for it. Bit chilly but the sun was out and not a whisper of wind and clear skies all around, just beautiful.

It's a very well kept course, was playing fairly easy today (off forward tees) but I would say it can be quick tricky during the spring/summer when the trees are in full bloom. There was lift clean and place but no real need for it. Greens were also in fantastic condition.

I'd also agree that you'd want to be careful walking around, it can be very tight in places and having to walk across fairways to get to the next tee box is never ideal. We were the third group out so had a fairly clear run but from about the 15th/16th on-wards we could hear very regular shouts of 'FORE' echoing around the course.

Can say without any shadow of a doubt that in the two years I have been working for my current employer, that was my favorite day at work though!
