Christmas Day ride 2012

I'm going to be in Ireland for a few days around late December. Would there be interest on here on going for a spin on Christmas Day?

Was on one last year in London and it is brilliant to ride around the city with the streets emptied. We met up at 9am and rode around for about three hours at a fairly leisurely pace.

It would be good to do it in Dublin... wouldnt care where it went or what pace, would be happy to up the tempo a bit.

Of course, I'd then need to ask someone for the temp loan of a road bike, if anyone out there has a spare...! Happily willing to pay a few quid rental for it and of course leave a large deposit for security.

If we can do that near my location, I am in and you can borrow my bike, if it is big enough for you (it actually is my other half's bike and she doesn't know I am offering it to you, but she wouldn't mind, as the bike is rarely in use :)).

You do realise that Christmas day is about getting up late, not going to mass, eating too much, lazing in front of the fire, watching home alone again...why on earth would anyone want to drop that for a bike ride or anything else is beyond me.

The only reason to go out on a bike on Christmas Day is if said bike was delivered overnight by the guy in the big red suit.

[NOSTALGIA] There's something you don't see too much of nowadays - kids bombing around the streets on their new Christmas bikes on Christmas day. I blame the parents:) [/NOSTALGIA]

Getting onto the streets of Dublin at 9am till midday. That's 2.5 hours drinking time you're eating into.

Thanks for the offer but I'll be in Dublin, not Kilkenny, I dont have access to a car.

Sitting around drinking and watching TV sounds like my idea of hell.

Anyone interested in renting me a road bike for a few days? Looking for a 54cm frame. Will pay rental fee and give deposit. Or if someone can recommend a shop that does road bike rentals.

Nice idea, I would join you if I was in Dublin but I'll be in Louth.

did it for a few years about 8/10 years ago-started by accident, was only going out for smokes and was back 2 hours later- i saw less than 10 people(including drivers). Dont do it anymore as you have a lot of people in dublin for xmas these days. first 3 times was ghostly quiet and super fast :)
FlickerX when are you arriving, i may sort you out for a bike.

Really tempted, but I'll be busy helping someone build a train... whether he likes it or not.

The only reason I'll be getting on my bike Christmas day is to do the same thing I do every year... get fecking batteries!

I'll bring a flask of hot whiskey with me if a spin materialises.

I think that actually sounds good. Usually go for a run myself and we won't get going with anything here till 12 or 1 or so. Better than sitting around watching crap tv or hoping there's some other loser on boards that will post something interesting. Keep me in the loop...
