    Hello barryby,

by right one expansion tank would be suffice for a heating system.

But if you were to put in two, both would have to be exactly at the same level to prevent over flow. Is one higher than the other ?

If that is not the issue, their is something not correctly plumbed.

Cold feed in the wrong position perhaps.

The back boiler would have to get priority with the tank and cold feed and expansion.

Is the other system an oil boiler ?

To find the level for the new tank attach a clear hose low down on the cold feed and let it up high. The height the water stops at is the height of the water in the other tank.

You can also use a bit of pex let it up high bring it down where it starts to spill is the height of the water in the other tank.

Remember the height of the water is not the height of the tank but the height of the water in the tank.

yes it oil boiler i have the tank for that over it in the attic and the same for the fire so if i took out the oil one would i just bring the expantion over to the fire one

If it is possible yes. If not get the two tanks at the same level.

No harm to get a plumber to have a look and advise. Make sure the back boiler is set up correctly.
