On a recent trip I was suprised that we got bused to the aircraft, why are Ryanair doing this when there is room on pier D, is it cheeper than paing for stands on D or what.

Some stands on pier d are not accessible by walking so you need to be bussed. If the aircraft will be sitting on the ground for an extended period of time it will go to one of these more remote stands so as to not to block the other main gates when it is busy.

I see, looked up stand charts at DUB and it looks like 4 or 5 can't be accessed by walking would that be correct.

FR normally bus people to stands 91/90 if the other stands are in use at the end of the pier.

It's cheaper. Ryanair and MOL wanted all their flights on remote stands at one stage. The bus contract is outsourced to Servisair in DUB.

It has nothing/very little to do with capacity on the D pier/100 gates.

And this is why the DAA are to hit Ryanair with the extra charges next summer so they will stop doing this.

as the stands are not walkable from the terminal they are considered remote, thus being cheaper to park the aircraft on these stands. Nothing to do with the others being full

The only remote stands that I have seen FR aircraft park on is 90/91 and 111 sometimes the pax will walk from the terminal pass sky handling GSE to get to the aircraft,Sometimes they us the bus as for FR wanting to use remote stands all the time the airport would not have the capacity for this as the likes of Aer Arran and the freighter companies normally use these stands.

now they aren't allowed walk out to the 90's, so the boarding takes place at the 220 gates onto the busses. Slows the turnarounds down quite a bit when there's a full load

Well I must be seeing things as many a time I've seen pax walk out the entrance at the end of the pier.

They normally have the seats blocked off with a sign saying priority boarding.

They are on the first bus, and as I said above...now they aren't allowed walk out to the 90's. In the past they used to be able. It changed about a year ago

Well I must be working in another airport caked Dublin as I said in a previous post I've seen it with my own eyes, pax walking out to the 90s with FR ground crews stopping the pax from walking across the road as cars tricks etc drive bye.

They've been using buses for a few stands at the end of pier d for over a year now. A couple don't require them, those are the ones you probable see people walking to as is the case for almost every other stand on pier d.

The one time I'd to bus it the priority passengers got on one bus and the others followed.

Parked on stand 91 on Thursday evening, walked into the terminal no bus. OMG.

I prefer having the buses when arriving. It brings you very close to the passport check area. A lot less walking to be done.
