I'm not gay and I have no objection to gay marriage or anything like that. I'm very curious on what is the next obvious step.

This is what I think of it at the moment:

    • Adoption
    • Equality
I wish appreciate any feedback, thanks.

I'm not really sure what you are asking?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I've been asked to write an essay on a topic about gay marriage and what I'm asked is, "Gay Marriage. The obvious next step. Discuss."

There is legal argument over the obvious next step.

The obvious next step in my opinion is a referendum to amend the constitution.

However some might argue that might not be necessary and that legislation could be introduced anyway and refered by the President to the Supreme Court to check it's constitutionality.

There's more than one way to interprets that title (though obviously the subject/course will inform the content).

It could for example be used as a starting point for an essay arguing against marriage equality if one were so inclined.

or it could be used looking at the issue internationally

Like all essays, you need to address the arguments, for and against, then draw your conclusions. Gay marriage is only one small step, so maybe examine all the other equality issues, that it is currently overshadowing, there is an argument that marriage equality is only an important issue for a certain sub-section of the LGB community. I think there is a thread or two here on marriage equality with a few interesting points, with links to external sources, that could form interesting reading material!

You could argue that in the climate where gay marriage is the obvious next step in achieving equality for lgbt people that many other issues get overlooked in Ireland; transgender legislation, employment equality (section 37), hate crime, refugees, healthcare

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? Hi,

I was just wondering what the difference is between gay marraige and the civil partnership that exists already?

If they are both the same thing then why is it so important for gay people to marry?

Is it just the use of the term marry if you know what I mean?

    Thanks

Maybe the next obvious step is for people to stop calling it "gay marriage" and call it what we all want i.e marriage EQUALITY.
There are something like 160 differences between civil partnership and marriage equality .

Perhaps remove the privileges that marriage possesses in the eyes of the State first?
