Insurance assessor car write-off

    Quick question.
Last Wednesday I has rear ended by a big coach and the car(Honda Civic 01 85k miles) is a write off. Cars of similar mileage on autotrader go for between 2500 and 3000 euros. I have the assessor coming out on Monday and after checking on the vrt calculator the open market sales price is only 2000 euro.
My question is do I have any say or argument with the assessor if he offers me below what I am looking for it.
I am not looking for anything extra just the fair price for the car but I don't think I should come out financially worse especially when I did not cause the crash in the first place.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

You are entitled to the amount that it will take to replace your car with like for like. Its up to you though to go around and get prices from garages as proof of the cost in replacing the car. Do not accept their first offer if it is too low.

Sound for advice. Do you know what the next step would be if we can not come to an agreement on the cars worth?

You need to print off some adverts of similar cars and be ready to produce these for the Insurance company. Just remember though that it is pointless looking at dealer adverts as their asking prices include haggling room and warranties. Go onto the likes of donedeal.ie where most adverts are private sellers with more realistic prices.

Cool. Have found 2 on donedeal exact same year and both mileage is much higher. One for €2950 and the other €2500 so at least I will have those to show the assessor
Any other ideas on how to actually get what the car is really worth from the assessor?

Is an 01 civic really worth more than 2000 euro though?

    Not really constructive.

Had a similar a problem car a right off but insurance only willing to go to book value provided car was in good condision with NCT
Book value is a lot lower than you might expect and certainly no where near top prices adveritised in garages or by some dreamers on donedeal.
Best of luck hope you don't end up too much out of pocket

Sorry, but I tend to agree. Unless it's a performance version or a rarity, I fail to see how an 11 year old Civic could be worth more than 2k. I have a 12 year old 740i in immaculate condition sitting in my drive and I'm having trouble getting that money for it. It would have cost around 100k new. How much did the Civic cost*?

(*I realise it's apples and oranges to a certain extent, but you have to ask yourself, how much are those cars you're citing /selling/ for? A certain level of reality is needed too.)

Let us know what the outcome of this is. I honestly think you'd be doing well if you get even close to 2k for it.
