interference when magic eye goes through STB

Not sure if this is the correct place to post, so feel free to move.

I have my Sky eye going into TV #2 and all is good, sky is received with good reception and remote works through the eye.

Problem is when I introduced a saorview STB. I'm not putting the sky eye into the STB, connecting the rf out from the stb to the TV.

Problem is straight away the quality of the sky picture is degraded. Also if the remote for sky is touched at all, it interferes with the saorview picture. In fact there is periodic interference since I connected through the STB (even when the STB is turned off).

Going back to my original config returns the superior quality.

Any ideas how to combat this interference? Its so bad I pretty much disconnect the saorview box and go back to original setup until I really have to watch them..

    thanks in advance

What do you mean by this? Describe the order of connections from the wallplate or cable entry point to the tv's aerial input.

typo there...dont know where the 'not' came out of.

ok from the wall plate comes out the combined signal from the RF2 in the main room via a distribution amp in the attic. This cable goes into the magic eye, which goes into the STB.
Connecting the STB to the telly from the RF loopback in the STB.

So basically introducing the STB at all degrades the sky picture quality. Periodic interference when wathcing sky and each time the sky remote is pressed lines come accross the screen when viewing sky.

    Thanks

I wonder would a diplexer work if inserted after the magic eye?

    Might be worth trying this.

you are using a parallel rf channel in the sky output too close to the soarview channels and I would change the rf output channel to a diffferent no using the rule of 9, cant rememeber the exact phrase and see if that cures the problem. You may need a few attempts.

    report back

If it was a case of an RF channel clash, it would't matter if the STB was connected or not. That isn't the problem at all.

yep, tried changing RF channel initially.

this only happens when the magic eye is connected into the STB. Picture gets snowy and interference every time sky+ remote is pressed

I honestly can't say what the problem is. I'd try the decoupled cable, for want of any other idea, or just get another eye & link unit.

Maybe someone else will come up with something.

Try fitting an attenuator to aerial imput of digi box.

Maybe the RF lead between the Saorview box & tv is a particularly poorly screened one?

I have the same problem in several houses I have worked in. Never yet found the problem. Attenuating the signal cut the interference a bit but it still affected the digital terrestrial signals. The only thing I havent tried yet was to change the distribution amp to a different type of one. The last house where I had the problem, I split the aerial signal at the wall socket - took one lead to the stb and another lead to the eye and then to tv. This cured any visible interference on the sky stations but still affected the stb channels. I'm still not a happy chappy. I think the distribution used was an SLX.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I had saorview box that worked perfectly with the magic eye. Sadly it died and the new saorview box now has interference when using the sky or tv remote.

    Any suugestions?
