I'm just looking for some advice.

My wife and I are married now 4 years. She was working full time up to when we got married for about 10 years. We had our first child approx a year after getting married and wife had her hours cut back abit before going on maternity leave. After maternity leave the place she was working had closed so she claimed the dole for a year. As I earn approx 60k a year she wasn't able to claim anything after that. We have had a second child since also who is now 1.

My wife wishes to go back to education now - is there any support that she could avail of? We are currently struggling abit at the moment in terms of money and any help would be great?

She is also vaguely considering setting up her own business - (not much investment needed) but again we haven't looked into this - is there any support available for this?

mp22 - thanks for response. I have read through some of these pages.
There are always so many different types of allowances etc. that I was more looking for someone who had similar experience who could guide as to what specifically look at.

In terms of BTEA - it appears as though you need to be receiving unemployment payments directly before you go for a course - is that right?

I think that you have to be getting a payment before you can get the BTEA.But you need to check out the situation if herself was signing for credits.

A lot of the allowances are means tested, so your income would most likely disqualify her, unfortunately.

She really should be signing for credits. It's very unlikely she will get any payment to do a course, but she may be able to avail of free courses such as springboard, fas or lmetf if she is signing for credits.
