Recording football matches

Ok, so I am wondering if someone can help a bit of an amatuer when it comes to this stuff. I want to be able to record (youth) football matches. I want to get a camera and stand/tripod. The quality has to be of a decent standard but not amazing so as to be able to watch the games back and do some analysis on the games. Can anybody recommend something that would suit a small budget?

    Thanks in advance.

    :)

    How small is the budget??

For less than €500 you have below. These are pretty much full auto though so you won't be able to manually control anything. If the games are under good light and you keep the sun to your back then they should be fine. They also shoot in 50p which and have an optical zoom of 30x plus you will need for sports. You will need a tripod as well otherwise the footage will be very shaky and the footage won't be great either at the end of the zooms. I think the panasonic is the better of the two.

    Panasonic - V500M
    Sony - HDRCX130EB

Ok, thanks for the reply! Budget is probably smaller than that though! :)

All I am looking to do is capture a wide view of a game, from an elevated position, not really looking for zooms in or out at all. Maybe half a pitch at any time so being able to move from right to left is really the only requirement other than taking a good quality picture. Does that explain it?

Just a word of warning - if it is videoing youth football, make sure to get official permission prior to recording anything, as otherwise you could end up in a bit of bother.

Chances are it will be no problem but spending your cash and finding out it would be a problem would be a right pain.

Thanks for the info, this would be covered and we would actually look to give parents a copy of the game for example. :)

If it's just for wide angle then to be honest any HD camcorder you can find will probably do the job especially from an elevated view point.
