Border Area, Freeview HD

    Hi guys

Does a TV need to have a Freeview HD Tuner to pick up all those Freeview channels if you lived in an area close enough to receive them?

Or will a normal builtin Freeview Tuner do?

Or does any of this matter at all anymore and all those channels will come in if you're close enough to receive them on a Saorview TV?

Probably stupid questions, Googling is making things worse :/

A standard Freeview box will pick up all the Freeview channels except the HighDef ones.

A FreeviewHD box will, of course, get all these plus the additional HD channels.

Most TVs built in the last few years will have a Freeview tuner built in, but its rare to get a TV with a FreeviewHD tuner built-in.

If you have a Saorview compatible TV you should get all these channels if you run a search.

    Should?

Spotted the HD on this one and googling from there left me bewildered with it all.

Well that looks a beauty, and it appears on the Saorview website so it will definitely get Saorview, and will also pick up the Freeview/FreeviewHD channels too, assuming you are within range of a transmitter in the North.

Is this correct? Maybe in the ROI but certainly not in the UK. Surely all the main makes e.g. Sony, Panasonic have these now. I have 2 in my home so I can get ROI channels. There is admittedly a shortage of portable FreeviewHD TVs (although I have a Sony 22in TV with Freeview HD and its top rate in my opinion) but plenty of large screen versions on the market. In fact the demand here for these in NI is so high (RTE factor) that shops are indeed running short and having to order more in.

Mustn't be approved. It's not in Currys Saorview approved selection either.
