Tax Relief on Motor/Work Expenses

I recall coming across something recently where it said that a PAYE employee who uses their private car for work purposes.....is entitled to €0.60 per km. Is this true? I've searched but cannot find it right now.

I can do quite a bit of mileage with work and have done so for the past number of years. Our rate is €0.60 per mile.

There is a significant difference between the two, so what I'd like to know is:

    1. Should I be getting at least .60c per km from my company? (If not, I'm assuming I'd be better off to just cease my companies payments and go the reclaim from PAYE scheme route?).

    2. Is it possible to claim back mileage accrued over the last couple of years?

What it says is that a PAYE employee may be reimbursed at up to a particular figure without being liable to tax on any part of that reimbursement.

If you're employed in the public services then that's generally the reimbursement rate - though it drops considerably when the distances exceed a level.

If you're in the private sector you have no entitlements - just what is agreed between the employer and the employee.
