Sky On Demand - monitoring viewing habits

I wonder if Sky are/will monitor customers viewing habits now that our boxes are hooked up to broadband and connecting back to Sky HQ?

I don't mean the on demand stuff as such. I'm wondering if they will use this as a way to get accurate viewing figures for programmes, general viewing habits, what type of programmes we watch at what time etc.

Maybe even place targeted advertising on our boxes?

They have been rumored to be doing this for years as the boxes always are required to be connected to a phone line. "Supposedly" they dialup a free phone number during the night every so often and transmit back what you are watching. How accurate this is I don't know, but it would be certainly possible.

I remember right from the earliest days hearing a relay click during the night as the box tried to dial out. This was long before multiroom was invented.
