Secret races!

This is one for us mid-pack plodders and not the celebs on here who would be towards the business end of the race :)

I usually do my races with 4 or 5 people I know. Last night I sneaked off and did a secret race. I didn’t tell anyone I was doing it and just sheepishly made my way through the dark streets of Dublin down to the Docklands, sneaked into bag drop and made my way to the start line (well back, I know my place!:() and left the ipod at home for my first race too. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of racing on my own and would highly recommend it. There’s so much less pressure! I ran better than ever, felt much more in control and despite a personal mishap half way through, I managed a pb. Racing against someone you know, even at recreational level makes it a much more stressful experience imo.
But then again, maybe I would have run faster if I had been running against someone I know:eek:

So, Do you ever schedule a race on your own without your race buddies, and do you enjoy it?

I thought this was going to be about some kind of running version of fight club. But then again... we wouldn't be talking about that I suppose...

Last year I had to race under an alias so the coach wouldn't find out.

    *Didn't actually do this

From the start line to the finish I run alone. When I read your op I thought 'huh? They race together?' I never knew anyone did that! I introduced a friend to running a while back and when we went to her first race I explained I wouldn't run with her. A race is a solo pursuit! She was surprised at the start but understood by the finish.

And everyone I train with has their own race calendar. Sometimes we do the same races but certainly don't all have to agree to do the same ones.

But maybe it's just cos I have no friends :(
