    Hi,

I am hoping somebody here can give me some advice? I have a very good job in an area luckily not hit by the recession to badly. I have had a lot of interest from a great company for a position which would be a great step up career wise.

The problem, it is a 9 month contract. Possibility it could be extended at the end. However, obviously no certainty. Would I be mad to consider it??

Is there much of a difference in pay?

Do you believe it would add to your skillset and make it easy to find employment after the nine months are up?

What field is it if you don't mind me asking?

    Field is Supply Chain.

Work for a huge multinational at present. New position would be in a similar set-up.

The position would give managerial experience. Something I am lacking in an official capacity despite fulfilling such obligations within the current department. Also, yes it would be a significant pay rise.

I'd imagine it would open up other managerial positions to me?

My other half was faced with this same dilema recently.

She was offered much better wages at a different company for the same work(possibly even less work as she works overtime regularily) .

However in the end she decided the permament job was worth hanging onto for another year, as they were about to embark on a new project and she would get great experience from it. They gave her a promotion and pay increase since, and this new project basically hinges on her.

In a sense she was rewarded for staying put. That being said if you were not in a position with prospect for gaining new experience or improving yourself, then i would consider moving on . If you were moving onto extra wages then i would make myself save the majority in case the contract wasnt extended.
