    Hi there.

I've troubleshot this problem to death, now I'm turning to you good people to get me out of a major bind.

I'm trying to fix a Lenovo laptop for someone and I'm struggling.

Basically I can't log into Windows because the characters on the keyboard is all messed up. The 'H' button operates as a backspace for example and that's all I know because obviously the characters are hidden when typing in a password.

We had the same problem yesterday and thanks to Google I fixed it by pressing the FN button and F4 or F7, but the same combination doesn't work this time.

In addition to that, the F buttons aren't where they're supposed to be neither which eliminates the possibility of Safe mode I think.

Some of the keys beep when I hit them and the characters don't appear, just a beep.

If this problem sounds familiar to anyone you'd be helping me alot by offering suggestions.

    Cheers.

Try plugging in a USB keyboard and see if that works any better.

the ribbon connector may not be correctly seated in the tab beneath the keyboard. There may be water damage on the keyboard. As the previous poster said try a usb keyboard. You may have to disconnect the laptop keyboard also. I would also try booting from a linux live CD just to see if the fault only occurs in windows.
