    How did you learn?

Personally, I have been playing for over a year now and at this stage I have a good grasp on playing all the major chords and a small number of other chords. I taught myself through youtube and Justin Guitar. I also know the major scales. From looking for advise on the net, I decided that I would learn Music Theory before I went full on into learning the Guitar as the general concensus was that it helps alot to have music theory Knowledge!

I play away and think that I'm actually not bad and am making good progress, then I watch my friend playing who has been playing for something like 15 years and realise that I have sooooo much to learn and that I am truly just a beginner!
    He taught himself!

So how have you learnt the Guitar... Are lessons of good benefit!

How did you develop your skills over time with regard to picking styles, and all that?
