    Hey all
I recently fitted a xenon kit into my 02 Audi a4
Lights work perfect but every now and then I get abs and asc lights coming on

I was told I didn't need cancellors for the Audi

I am baffled into what this is

    All help appreciated

I had HID kits for both dips and front fogs. I could only switch on the fogs when the engine was running otherwise the bulb-out would cut voltage thinking that the foglight bulbs were damaged and taking too much current.

It sounds as though your kit is on the borderline for the monitoring electronics. You may need to get the little boxes afterall.. Chat with your vendor.

You definitely need the error cancelling units for the A4.

I'd understand a "blown bulb warning", but why would xenons cause stability control and braking system lights to come on? VAG safety circuits only work if fogs are on????

You need to google "can bus" and i'm not talking about the rapper :D

I'm vaguely aware of it yes - still confused by the connection between lighting cirucuits and traction control! Give us an ol short summary there if possible

I wouldn't understand it enough myself to give you one.My laymans understanding of it is that can bus uses a single wire to transmit all the signals around the car,and that after market HID kits play havoc with it.

I'd be a layman myself when it comes to the intricacies of CANbus, but from my laymans POV I'd imagine two different types of faults -
    a) the circuit that decides if the bulb is blown or not measures a (low) current that suggests a blown bulb - cancellors will fix that.
    b) poor quality/ misintalled HIDs are forcing or drawing an undesireable voltage/current on the CANbus -leading to confusion on the bus and real or imagined faults in other modules. So misdirected current (bad ground), too high a current or maybe some kinda pulsed voltage from the stepup circuit in the HIDs. Not sure if cancellors will fix that. I'd check that the HIDs had a good ground connection though, and that there wasn't any moisture where there should be in connections or the ballasts.

Again - you'd know far far far more about these cars then I would, so if error cancellors generally fix this - ignore me :). I'm dubious about the lights or the installation of them myself :(!

Error cancellers wont work on the early b6 a4. I had same issue with 01 a4. There are certain kits that do work. Go to audisport.net and search forum and you'll find the kit you need

I had a 01 B6 and the cancellers worked no problem, never had any issues.

Its electrical noise thats causing these faults. Return them and try a different kit.
listen to AM radio, then turn on the lamps, see how much noise is generated
Like street lamps and fluorescent bulbs, HID headlamps require a high voltage ignition source to start. It typically takes up to 23,000 volts to start a xenon bulb, but only about 80 to 90 volts to keep it operating once the initial arc has formed. The normal 12 volts DC from the vehicle's electrical system is stepped up and controlled by an igniter module and inverter (ballast), which also converts the voltage to AC (alternating current) which is necessary to operate the HID headlamps.

I'm inclined to agree - poor quality. Probably not much comeback on them if they are fleabays finest China Engineered yokes though. Worth checking the grounding on them still.

Tossy - was it a bulb warning you had, or was it abs tcs or misc other faults you had with the hids?

I never had any warnings or issues with the HIDs in my old A4.

abs warning lights seem to be caused by interference with crash sensor try moving ballast as far back from bumper as possible. didnt work for me but some have had luck doing this. cancelers are for bulb out warning on dash wont do anything for this interference.

I would suggest 'copper tape' and grounding to body of car... I had problem with two-way radio and interference, all because of HiD'S Xenon kit...
