Someone check my maths: assuming (conservatively) five million mobile subscriptions in Ireland, that comes to €0.79 per subscriber per month over the 18 years of the licences?

Although 3's maths doesn't seem to be as sharp

Three also welcomed the results of the auction, saying it would be able to roll out high speeds of up to 180 Mbps – enough to download a full-length MP3 in a fraction of a second – but did not indicate when it would begin rolling out those connections.

Three welcomes the results of Ireland's spectrum auction.
Three acquires strong spectrum portfolio at lowest cost.
Speeds of up to 180 Mbps planned across the network.
Dublin, 15 November 2012 - Three, Ireland's high speed network, today welcomed ComReg's announcement in relation to the multi-band spectrum auction results. ComReg revealed that Three had won a strong portfolio of spectrum at the lowest portfolio price of 51.14 million euros. The allocation more than doubles Three's current spectrum holding which will support Three's strategy of continued investment in its network long-term, will improve network coverage nationwide (indoor and outdoor) and enable speeds of up to 180 Mbps.
Robert Finnegan, CEO of Three Ireland commented: "We are delighted with the outcome of the auction - it gives us the best of both worlds, a strong portfolio at the best price. Our strategy was to acquire a flexible mix of spectrum that would allow us to continue to be Ireland's leading high speed network at the lowest cost. This result will enables the roll-out of new technologies such as LTE with speeds of up to 180 Mbps but also allows us to continue to invest in our network going forward.
Robert added: "Three's network was built for data, we do not have to support old GSM handsets and legacy technologies in the same way as the old networks, so we do not need the same mix of spectrum. The 51.14 million euros price tag means we are in a very good position to continue to offer the very best value to consumers and the best service."
Today's announcement also confirmed that Three's portfolio of spectrum has increased more than any other operator with an addition of 25MHz, whereas the old networks saw a far smaller increase - of 10MHz by 02, 10MHz by Meteor and 20MHz by Vodafone. Benefiting from four blocks of 1800 MHz, Three will be able to roll-out high speeds of up to 180 Mbps and its allocation under 1GHz will boost rural coverage and provide enhanced 3G services.
In addition to Three's spectrum portfolio, the company also recently announced a network infrastructure sharing agreement that will increase network coverage nationwide to over 2000 sites and provide further cost efficiencies that will support the rapid roll-out of new services such as LTE.

So it looks like a bit of tweaking of the 3g frequencies for rural areas but the LTE is urban only.

Deputy Michael Colreavy, Sinn Féin spokesperson on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources has welcomed the results of the 4G auction results which were announced today, resulting in €450 million being paid into the Irish exchequer. However, Deputy Colreavy has raised concerns over the coverage clause detailed in the contracts awarded.

Speaking on the issue, Deputy Colreavy said:
“I welcome the news announced by ComReg this morning that the 4G auction will result in €450 million being paid into the Irish coffers. However, there is major concern regarding the 4G coverage that this deal will provide. A clause of the agreement with the service providers is that these network companies will provide 70% population coverage.
“In reality this means an actual coverage of approximately 13% of the national area, leaving major parts of Ireland with no 4G coverage. Rural areas, which already suffer from lack of services, will now be discriminated against with regards mobile phone coverage.
“As the licences awarded run until 2030, there is concern that rural dwellers will be suffer from the lack of adequate coverage well into the future. I am calling on the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Pat Rabbitte, to urgently address the situation and answer the concerns of many Irish consumers.”
