    Hi
I was having problems with my Sky Box locking up, not taping programs on serial link, so I put in a call a couple of weeks back to get my Sky box upgraded.
The engineer arrived yesterday and replaced the dish and lnb as it was so old, but then put in a refurbished Sky box. I asked him was I not entitled to a new box but he said no, for call outs they only issue refurbished boxes.
Can I go back to Sky and say I do not want this refurbished box or am I stuck with it?

Unfortunately thats the way Sky operate when they replace faulty boxes and it is in their T & C's. The installers will give a 3 month warranty though and you ring them if you have a problem during that period.

its unbelievable. Happened to me as well, refurb box which then broke 9 months later.

They work it so that you pay €100 for the call and they supply any new parts as necessary for "no charge". SO when my box broke after 9 months I wasn't entitled to statutory rights as I never actually purchased the box, it was "a goodwill gesture"... Clever business brain thought that up, nightmare for customers.

Did manage to get a free call out from them when it broke again, and as part of the call out they replace fault equipment which was the box. He was using the remote and said it was dodge (something i forgot about) and said if he had one in the van he'd have replaced it. He said if you ever need a call out, tell them about every single little issue you have, from your pause button not working all the way to no signal at all. If you don't tell them, they won't bring whatever is needed to fix it.

I am not with Sky anymore but a couple of years ago I purchased a new 1 TB box from them - which they installed.

A few months later there was a problem with the box. Still under warranty but Sky mentioned a refurbished box. I couldn't believe it as the box cost alot. I told the Sky person I wasn't happy with this but he insisted that on the day that my replacement box could be either new or refurbished.

So what I did was I found out the Sky installation company here in Ireland. I rang their office and I spoke to a lady who organised the schedule of work for the next day. She said she would leave a note with the engineer that I wanted a new box.

I don't know whether that call made the difference but the next day I got a new box. The guy installing it was decent too - toke away the old box but left me the remote, hdmi cable, etc from that box.
