I work in one of the shops and it wasn't a stock clearance exercise by any means. The stock that is in now is the stock that will be in for Christmas and 20% discount was available off every item in store, I assume it's the same for most of the shops. The stock doesn't change dramatically 5 weeks before Christmas.
