Car revving when I break

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone would have any idea what the problem with my car is.
I have an 08 Toyota Auris. The last couple of mornings i noticed the car revving slightly as i braked - it went up to about 1600 revs. It only happens just after i turn the car on and break as i stop at the gateway of my house. Once i get on the road and moving its fine.
The car was only serviced about 5000kms ago.
Its a 1.4 vvti engine if that makes any difference.
    Thanks.

    Is she revving to warm?

Are the blower and heater on at the same time? Should the engine be effectively idling when this happens? ie: have you stopped?

Yeah it happens just as Im coming to a stop at the gate.
I wouldn't usually have the heater on that soon after getting into the car, i usually wait until its warmed up a bit but its possible it was left on from the night before.
Do cars rev themselves to get warm? My old car never did...although it was a Peugeot 206 which would have had to improve to be useless, gave me nothing but hassle, so probably no point in comparing the Toyota to it.

Quite common on auriss and corollas. Can't remember the cure or if there is one. I think you have to drive the stones off it for a while, avensiss used to do this too.

Are you sure it's not at 1600 RPM from the second you start it? A lot of cars nowadays rev well above idle when they're cold in order to heat up the catalytic converter to get it to do its job faster and hence lower emissions.

If you turn the steering as you reach the gate the system will sense the extra load on the power steering and increase the engine speed to cope with it. I don't think you have a problem.
