I recently returned to work after being on Mat Leave. My wages are higher as I don't seem to be paying any PAYE. Why is this, not that I'm complaining:D

    Moved from state benefits

Check and see if you are paying any paye, you have several months allowance to use up before December 31.

You still have a full years tax credits to avail of, so assuming that you weren't being paid by your employer during your maternity leave, your gross income for the year is lower and so you're paying less tax :)

You obviously didn't get paid maternity by your employer and just got standard social welfare maternity pay ....therefore you have a lower gross income over the year meaning your take home pay will be more ....it will return to normal when the new tax year kicks in, in January

    Happy days for you...enjoy
