Has anyone here ever actually got a Valentines card?

I know so random but watching Inbetweeners last night made me think of it, is this something that actually happens? I never ever got one...PERIOD. Is that rare? Or is it just in tv shows and stuff people get them?

I got one once from a girl in my class. I wasn't sure if it was a joke or not so I broke into her house and went through her drawers looking for something to compare the handwriting with.

Turns out it really was her.:)

Got a few in my teens and twenties, from the girl or boy I was dating at the time. Nowadays me and the missus exchange cards have done for years but I have to say; I'd be all a quiver if I got a card from a mystery admirer :D

In the old days, Valentine cards were from SECRET admirers. Cards were unsigned, no nudges, no winks - SECRET. Senders went to some lengths to avoid detection, e.g. disguised hand-writing; post mark from another town, etc.
I don't know when the veil was lifted - maybe another "let's copy the Yanks" trend? If you had a girl / boy friend, you might expect to send and receive a card but what if you received more than one, and the hand-writing was different, and the little poems or drawings were rude, or ruder???
As a former sender and receiver of secret Valentine cards, I can remember the thrill of wondering "who?" or "maybe".....Sometimes, the feeling of being watched is.....OK!

PS: When are we going to start celebrating Thanksgiving? And Fourth uv Joolaaah? I'm like sooooooo wanning it. No whud O'm sayin'? Period.

I got one once....totally unexpected.

There was a picture of the train on front of it and had some stupid text, can't really remember but I do remember thinking it was really cool at the time.

Anyway, I completely fell for her at that point, but it just turns out she was only taking pity on me. She led me up the garden path for a while and I thought it was turning into something a little serious.

Eventually, she could no longer keep up the charade and it all came to a head live on national TV of all places. Some stupid chat show host asked if we were an item to which I replied we were, describing her as my girlfriend and my hopes to marry her.

Anyway, she completely lost it at this point and came clean about the entire pretense which was pretty devastating and humiliating for me in front of a national audience.

I actually remember what the card said now...."I CHOO CHOO CHOOSE YOU" :rolleyes:

Years ago working at a hotel reception, we looked at the rota the week before and i was working Valentine's night with Mary, i joked to her that since we would be together on Valentines night i'd get her a card and laughed it off. Come Valentines night as I started my shift she handed me a card.......longest 8 hours of my life.

I knew it wasn't a p*sstake because of how it was written etc.
Never could decide whether it was romantic or creepy as I never did find out who sent it
