Maybe there already is a log on this buti haven't seen it..

Anyone following the budget talk and have any idea of the increase they are going to be putting on car tax and if it is definitely going to be related to engine size as it will hv a direct effect on the type of new car I buy

My problem is that I hear the vrt is also going to go up and I had planned on bringing a car through so I don't know wether to get in before the vrt hike or wait until after and risk it increasing dramatically , on the other hand if I bring a 2 ltr car in I could get screwed withy he new tax set up.

Obvious answer wud be to buy a smaller engine size in the south but I had seen a few cars I had an interest in in the north that wud work out cheaper than here.

    Hope this makes some sense.

Nobody can give tou a definitive answer on that.

It will be all pure speculation, and your guess will be as good as anyone else's.

One thing you can be sure of is that neither motor tax or VRT will be coming down.

    Aye I definitely know that.

Just wondering I suppose if people thought they were going to change drastically.

I had been looking at a 2.4 ltr engine ( shown on separate thread) that wud cost 481 to tax which I was ok with and if it only went up 50-80 euro I could deal with that but I'm cautious that they could go back to per 2008 prices which wud mean a dramatic increase of near double..
