Toyota has announced its second huge recall of vehicles in as many months in a move affecting almost 2.8 million cars world-wide.

The company blames problems with steering mechanisms and its hybrid system water pump.

Toyota UK told Sky News there were 75 thousand British cars affected by the two recall issues in total and there had been no reported accidents in the UK as a result of the steering problem.

I'd have no problem with Car manufactures recalling cars for maintaince to faults discovered..... Much prefered than hiding problem trying to save money or reputation.....

I see this as a good thing , they dont sound like really bad problems. They just admit that there is a problem and will fix it for you.

Much prefer this to some other manufacturers response of ignoring the obvious issues.

Fair play to them for the recall to sort the issue. A lot of manufacturers fail to admit to such things.

Although this must be playing havoc with the carbon footprint of the cars going back for recalls so often.

Corolla and Prius for water pump and steering rack failures. No incidents reported!

They've learnt from their mistakes, I'll give them that!

And BMW will be using Toyota/Lexus hybrid technology in return.

Didn't realise that was the deal!

Just found out my Eventless is one of the recalls....

I had the water pump in my Gen II Prius done earlier this year.

I entered my car's VIN into the Toyota website, and it came back as one for the recall.

Report now printed off ready to show my local service manager tomorrow. There will be no doubt in my mind that ''We haven't heard about that recall'' will be said.
Guess what? You've heard about it now!!!!

Funny (not in a good way) that UK reports mention the Corolla and Prius but Irish media reports only mention the Prius. It's only one of the most popular cars in this country for many years FFS

Toyota Ireland's website's news section has nothing, and the site doesn't even have a Recall information section - the UK one does but you need a UK reg to search.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

    Fair play to Toyota.
Mercedes-Benz need to adopt this policy.

Just checked it out on toyota.ie but there is no mention of the recall.

Would the .co.uk website tell me if my wife's prius is recalled? It was originally brought in from the north but is now irish reg.

I have a trickier problem. We have a Daihatsu Sirion. Daihatsu is part of the Toyota corporation and the Sirion uses many Yaris components. (In fact I have seen Sirions badged as Toyotas in Malta). Now Daihatsu seem to have gone from the Irish market and our Sirion has that clonk in the steering. So where do we go, I doubt if the Irish Toyota dealers will want to talk to us?

I have to say, as much and all as I don't like Toyotas, fair play to them for admitting that the get things wrong and do something about it. If only BMW would do the same with the HPFP, injectors, coil packs, swirl flaps, subframes, Nikasil, and of course, the most serious c0ck up (after the Nikasil problem of course) of them all, the timing chain problem with the N47 and N57 diesel engines.

You have to worry about how using BMW diesels is going to impact on Toyota reliability considering that BMW can't even get the basics right these days.

Or VAG, or Merc etc etc. The one advantage of BMW using Toyota hybrid technology is that at least there will be one component of a BMW that won't go wrong :D (or when it does, it will be recalled and fixed).

I read online on the Irish Independent and think they are to write to the motor dealers/those that own the cars if their car should be recalled.

Can you do this with an Irish registered car on the Toyota.ie website, if so I can't find it, maybe you could point the way? Or did you enter the VIN on some other site? I've just recently bought a Gen II Prius and should probably check this out :)

I too see this as a positive thing from Toyota, much better than burying you head in the sand and hoping the problem will go away.
