    Hey there

I hope someone can help me with a bit of history information regarding Boxing in Dublin in the 1920s and 1930s.

My Father (Joseph Bond) grew up in Dublin, I believe he boxed at St Andrews in Dublin. Dad was born in 1915, so it would have been in the 1920s and or 1930s that he was boxing. On the weekend I found the attached sketchPaddy (Joe) Bond - Boxer.jpg on the sketch it says Paddy Bond Lightweight Camp of Ireland. I'm not sure if this is correct or it was just someone mucking around. Dad was quite a modest man and didn't talk much about his achievements. I remember that he had won some trophies for boxing, no one in the family know where they are now.

I know that he was over in Birmingham Boxing and was returning home to Dublin and instead after seeing the advertisments to join the army joined up. He boxed for the British Army during the war, I have a photo of him with the 1944 boxing team. He immigrated to Australia after the war, so we don't know a lot about his life in Ireland.

Hope someone can really help me with this, the family would really love to know, sadly Dad passed away in 1981.

Mod snip: please read forum charter - contact via PM only

    Regards

    Cath Maris :)

Was your post supposed to include a URL link or was the information contained in the previous link you gave me?

    Thank you MBC

I have registered to the Dublin forums, just waiting to the administrator to activate my registration so I can post a question. They seem like very nice people from what I have read. Cath

St Andrews boxing club were located around the Rialto area of Dublin. My granfather was Tom Hickey. He would have known your father. Not much info about St Andrews. But im still looking.
