    Hi Folks

Just wondering is a big job to replace the sump on a inca ?

Also a mates VW passat Seized due to oil starvation due to a blocked strainer in the in the pipe leading to the oli pump . Does this happen in Inca/Cadddy's ?

Also does anyone use them engine oil flush's ?

    Thanks lads

Not sure about the caddy/inca but they are handy enough on a golf. Two tricky ones at the gearbox.

Was the passat petrol or diesel?

passat was petrol . the oil pick up has a strainer and it is not uncoomon for it to clog , i use a oil flush every service just to be sure .

i was looking at sump , it looks an easy job , no cross memeber and it looks straight forward job .

Sludge is common on the vag petrol engines. It dose not affect the diesel's for some reason. On refitting the sump make sure to seal it well.

the new sump from the breakers should have a gasket on it so there should be no problem

Don't think they come with a paper gasket. You will need a tube of sealer or instant gasket

Ones for the mk4 platform don't have a gasket anyway. You just use sealer. Same with most sumps i've seen changed. Sump for the mk4 are about 100-120

    100 from a breakers ?

Ya. Most breakers will have new ones. Not many will sell you a second hand one unless they have a damaged engine. They won't take one off a good engine

The pre 2000 Caddy/Inca had a steel sump with a gasket. From 2000 onwards they had an aluminium sump with no gasket.
