    Hello guys,

did anyone know about anything about the following camera?
    http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcorders/gopro-hero3-white-edition/4505-6500_7-35500409.html

I am planing to use it underwater and meanwhile linked it with an external screen, is that possible?

    Thanks!!!!!!
    m

Does anybody have filmed with any waterproof camera and watched the footage at the same time?

    Thanks!

The GoPros are really designed to be mounted onto something (a surfboard, boat, your head) and let record, as opposed to hand held and used like a normal camera. I know a guy who races Thundercats, and has two mounted on the boat, and one on his helmet, and gets great action footage of his races. So they do their job well. You can get an LCD screen BacPac add-on that fits inside the housing, but you have very little control over GoPros - they've pretty much just got a button to start and stop recording.

You can get underwater housings for loads of regular compact, mirrorless and SLR cameras, as well as video cameras. They'd be better designed for viewing the LCD screen as you record. Have a look around here: http://www.camerasunderwater.co.uk

My wife uses a Canon compact in an Ikelite housing for underwater photography. With this setup, she can see the camera LCD while shooting (and control all the camera settings). She's mainly into stills, but has taken a few videos, like this: https://vimeo.com/48919224

wow, thank you very much upstair!

and I do enjoy the video:)

and right now I am pretty wondering about
    1. to buy a waterproof camera(or a house for my camera)
    2. to buy this http://www.chinavasion.com/china/wholesale/Health_Lifestyle/Outdoors_Gear/Deep_Water_Multi-use_Camera_Set_-_LCD_screen_-_Case/

my goal is to film-watch-and record at the same time.

    suggestions please, help!

I think a few basic questions are in order to see exactly what your requirements are.

What do you plan on filming?
Will you be in the water?
What kind of depths do you wish to film at?
    What's your budget?
If you currently have a camera, what is it?

That "Deep Water Camera Set with LCD screen and Case" looks looks something you drop into the sea and operate remotely from a boat. It seems to be a camera on a long cable, attached to an monitor in a brief case. So you wouldn't be underwater with the camera, you'd be up on the boat watching the monitor. Which is a completely different kind of thing to both the GoPro and a regular camera/video camera in a housing.

The Hero3 White Editon will do the job perfectly for you, it is waterproof to 60Meters and has WiFi built in so you can see you image on a Phone or iPad. I have tried the WiFi on the Hero2 which works quite well, but there is a lag of about 4 seconds. If you can stretch the extra €100 the Silver edition has much higher resolution (11Mp still instead of 5Mp).
With GoPro all you have to do is add Action!

    Hi, thanks again!

I have: nikon d300 and d700, and a little black nikon cool pix p7100, i will need to use them to film the endless pool session(please see the link: http://www.endlesspools.com/), so the camera won't go more than 5m deeper underwater.

    I am searching for
A.) a cheap way to use one of my own camera (which maybe meant to buy a water proof case and a water proof monitor), but i don't quite sure if any of my camera can link the cable or wi-fi with any possible monitor while it is filming.
B.) my cameras are good for my regular photography job, but yet they don't seem perfect or they seem too big for the usage of endless pool filming, so i would rather to find a designed sport camera or the "Deep Water Camera Set with LCD screen and Case" ...
i know it might be too much- too exaggerated to buy such a case for a little range of filming, but it is a compromise to get the quick and convenient filming result. (but still I don't know how these machine will record the footage? still need to study)

    my budget is 230 max.

and i agree it's a case for boat and maybe deep water filming, thank you very much for helping, and i would like to see if i can find something between this case and digital reflex camera!

Wow, thank you very much again pal!!!

I am very interested in this camera now, as it seems to be very useful for the endless pool filming!

and now I would like to find it in a regular shop if they have this camera in stocks(if I could avoid to buy it through the internet), or get more reviews from the users.

Thank you very much! It's fantastic to know about the wi-fi function!

Dont buy the white edition, silver or preferably the black edition. The wifi function doesn't work underwater (water kills the signal) though if its shallow you *might* get away with it.

I have a Hero2 and i'll probably buy a 3. I have used it on land, over water and under water loads. The phone app works on iphones and android phones. There is a lag between what you see on the phone and what the lens is seeing. This may improve on the Hero3 Black but the update to the app to support that cam isn't out until Dec 15th.

Your budget is too low for any Hero3. You would get a 2nd hand hero2 but you would need to get a flat lens case for it (standard on the hero3). The other the to consider is underwater colour correction. There is currently no way to add filters to the hero3. On the hero2 there is an expensive 3rd party case and filters available. Not a big deal in shallow pool water though.

There are soft camera cases/bags that are in your budget and i've seen some really nice results from them (http://www.dicapacusa.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=WPS10)

I shot this demo of the app on an iphone:

    one more question, sorry,

does anyone knows if EYE-FI card can transfer the data when it is filming underwater?

    Thanks!

Hi, thanks for the video and info,
here I still have a question:
will go pro camera work with eye-fi card?
as I want to film-view-record the footage at exactly the time time,
and of course the filming will be underwater.

    Thank you again!!!:)

I dont believe that eye-fi cards can be used with video and they have the same underwater limitation as its the waters effect on radio waves and not specific deficiency in gopros implementation.

The PM you sent me with the Eye of mine case that can give you cabled video out is your best option. Its quite expensive though and only does SD video:

Hey does anyone know if there's any difference in sound quality between the 3 tiers of GoPro Hero3?

They're saying themselves there's a big improvement on sound quality and I'd love to get one for vlogging on the go/bike/run.

Hoping I could save some money if the white or silver editions had similar sound quality to the black.

    Thanks folks

Brilliant thanks so much. I know there's a stereo adapter on the Black & Silver but that's great to know if I pluck for the cheapest!
