Channel 5 has completed its senior management reshuffle with the appointment of Ben Frow to replace Jeff Ford as director of programmes.

Frow previously worked at Channel 5 as controller of features and entertainment from 2004-2007, developing shows including Diet Doctors, The Hotel Inspector and Cosmetic Surgery Live.

He will take over the programming and commissioning responsibilities previously handled by Ford, who resigned from the Richard Desmond-owned broadcaster in October.

Last week Paul Dunthorne, the long-serving managing director of Desmond's Portland TV, took over day-to-day management of Channel 5 as chief operating officer.

Frow, currently the director of programming at Irish commercial broadcaster TV3, will start at Channel 5 in February and report to Dunthorne.

Not surprising, I think he stayed with TV3 longer than he expected. He was also to get a share of TV3 from reports in Irish newspapers, though a share of TV3 is as useful as a share in Anglo-Irish.

While TV3 did produce more shows under his leadership, they were mainly dreadful. I'd not be surprised if Fintan McGuire replaces him.

Compared to what was on the channel before he came and with the budget he had, I thought he did a fair enough job.

I hope when the new guy comes in he overhauls the schedule a bit. Come Dine needs to take a break after 2 years continuously on at 6.30pm, less Jeremy Kyle, weekend morning and afternoons are a mess - constant repeats, and to upgrade the Vincent Browne and Midday studios/green-screen.

They also need to understand who they are aiming 3e at. They have a 3 hour repeat of Ireland AM every day that surely needs to go.
