Part from dismantler - What are my options

    Hi All

    I have a 2005 Passat - old model.
The passenger side lock module packed in and rather than buy a new lock I got a second hand one in local dismantlers for €40.
My mechanic fitted it (~2 hours labour, 1 €120). However I noticed later that day that there is a problem with this lock also.

When you lock all doors form the drivers door console the passenger door lock always pops back up again now and does not lock. Intermittently the same thing happens when you are leaving the car and lock all doors with the fob - three doors lock, the passenger door locks and then pops up again. This happens probably 30-50% of the time I would say.
I showed it to the mechanic but we agreed that its the lock thats the problem again and theres not much else he can do.

I guess I am entitled to a refund of the €40. The problem is I' have to get the lock taken back out again to do that (more labour by mechanic) so this would end up costing me more money again.
Could I be entitled to a refund without producing the part ? Unlikely I guess......Wish I bought a new one now. I guess its the risk you take with a 2nd hand part right ?......

My Golf does that. I just lock the passenger door (with the key) and the others lock with it, has saved me €160+ by the sounds of it...

Risk with a second hand part unfortunately. Some* yards will take the part back but no guarantees unless its sold as tested.

Interesting. Does this arm the alarm properly though ? Or cause problems with the alarm ?
(Assuming the car has an alarm of course)
