Battery in 2002 Ford Fiesta

Hello folks, I need your opinion here...

My knowledge of cars is minimal at best as I am still only a learner driver, having bought my first little car there only a few months ago. Anyways, in the last 2 weeks, I have been caught out with a dead battery on 3 occasions. In all incidences, all lights/radio etc were turned off so there was no excessive drain on the battery.

As you can imagine, it is a real inconvienence. For example, yesterday morning I was caught in Galway, having to be at work in Shannon an hour later.

I was just wondering is this a sign that I should get a new battery, as the current one has had it's day? One of my mates thinks it's simply because of the cold these nights/mornings and that I should simply carry jump leads until the weather improves in the new year.

So do ye think I should leave it as is as he suggests, or should I just invest in a new one anyways?

    Thanks y'all!

If you live near a Halfords go in and they'll check you're battery for free.

Just change the battery, or get it changed.

Coming into the winter there is going to be more of a reliance on the battery to start the car/running the lights, heaters, wipers more.

Carrying jumpleads is frankly stupid advice.

get a new battery...about €50 and you'll be OK for the winter.

I had a '99 fiesta and one issue i had with it was leaving the lights on.

There was a buzzer noise that went off when i opened the driver door when the engine was off. This used to get stuck and not sound so i was caught out a few times by this. Its a little button that is let out when the door opens. It can get jammed.

Also do a check on all the lights in the car - inside and out just in case one of this is gone/staying on and draining the battery. My sister in law had this with her car where there was an issue wiith the glove compartment light which stayed on and drained the battery!

Also worthwhile getting the charging system checked before buying a battery. Check the boot light isn't staying on.
