if people don't realise 100's of tonnes of train are dangerous a few ads are hardly going to change that...

Sorry Irish Rail are not to blame here.

This happened at tracks at Woodbrook Golf club which no should be near.

Also trains go quite slow there so I wonder how it happened.

I was delayed getting home by this tonight and was complaining at the time. Puts it in perspective now, at least I got home.

Sadly they probably need in a lot of cases (not saying this) to perhaps have Samaratans adverts in each station to support people who may not be thinking straight.

No matter how much IE stress saftey on the railways it won't be enough as people will still be killed because in most cases people don't care.

If you follow Irish Rail on twitter you can see how often this is happening. I've been involved in a few incidents by being only an on-off commuter over the last while. I wonder is it just having them reported more or are these things happening more often - unfortunately you'd have to say it's the latter. Terrible for all involved and RIP to the deceased.

Ture but this insident didn't happen at a station so you have to ask how people were on the tracks between stations. I just don't understand peoples thinking at all when it comes to railway saftey...

Good lord! This has happened exactly a week after the Dun Laoghaire incident. :(:(:(:(

Does anyone know if this was an accident or a suicide?

    Either-way, shocking stuff!

My prayers go out to all involved!

It's a bit early to tell.

you'll find out soon enough, if it was a suicide the media will just drop the story and there'll be no follow up

RIP the deceased, but main thoughts here now are with the driver (again!). How awful it must be for him/her.

well said eigrod. I remember being on a subway here in Toronto when someone jumped and the driver looked in bits as he was leaving the train.

When the TTC started doing subway Twitter alerts ("personal injury at track level") it became stunningly clear how often this happened and they were obliged to act by teaming up with the phone company to put a "press here to help" button on the platform payphones. It does seem to have helped but in part because virtually all their track is secure in one way or another. The GO Transit surface trains on the other hand are struggling with the much longer trackage which is much more porous (in part because of numpties breaking holes in the fencing for shortcuts). Difficult to say how much IE can do to avoid this sort of incident outwith their station area - the danger in an ad campaign is that you appear self-serving and unsympathetic.
