Ridiculously fragile iPhone 5

I've only had my iPhone 5 ten days and am pretty narked. I dropped my gym bag yesterday and, later, when I lifted out my phone, the screen was smashed beyond belief. I couldn't believe that, despite the protection of the gym bag, the fall was enough to ruin the screen.

I hadn't got round to insuring it so that was another headache. The screen is in an awful state and little fragments of glass are even coming off.

I rang around a few repair shops. Most said they don't yet do iPhone 5 repairs but one quoted the astronomical figure of 300 euro to replace the screen. Apparently, the repair kits aren't widely available so whoever is actually able to fix them, is royally shafting people.

There is no way on earth I can afford anything near that figure. Has anyone any suggestions to get me out of this pickle?

Understand you're annoyed but you drop a bag and complain that your phone is broke?

Think you're being unfair to be honest.

Also look on internet for repairs.

    I feel for you, Sleuthy.

I dropped my iP5 on a metal bridge an hour after getting it and somehow only managed to chip it.

    Isn't this the internet? :pac:

Have you contacted Apple? Apparently they will replace screens (though for a fee, of course).

Apple will prob charge you more. Replacement screen for an iphone 4 and 4s are about €300 from them so a 5 will more than likely more.

I was quoted €160 from Apple last month to replace the screen on my dads 4.

Where are you getting this from, afaik it's 160 for a 4 and 211 for a 4s out of warranty repair

Screen part is about €50-70 on eBay, plenty of guides available online. I have replaced the screen on my other half's 4s twice and only takes about an hour. If your comfortable with taking things apart then should be straight forward...just be sure to have a piece of paper to label all of the screws.

So €160 from Apple is actually a reasonable price to include labour and parts.
