Just looking for some advice in relation to an ACCA Qualification.

I have basic book-keeping and am unemployed.

    1. Do I register with ACCA first?

    2. Im looking to do F1, F2, F3 by CBE in DBS, do I pay ACCA and DBS to sit the exams?

    3. I found some 2nd books for exam sitting 2012, will they be ok for a 2013 exam sitting?

    4. I hope to do as many as possible by homestudy, is there any that might be worth a lecture?

    5. Is there anything else that I should know?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I done similarly to you in that I started my exams before working in accounting job(I done F1 to F8 before getting a job). Register with ACCA first it costs about £80 or so. I did F1 to F3 in Griffith and you pay the college only and not both for CBE (they are about €120 each I think) - I know a few people that paid both and its money that you won't get back unfortunatly. Its a tough road ahead I done alot of my exams part time and they are tough to get through. Only three exams left myself now and I am wirking in an accountancy practice so all the hard work seems worth it in the end.

Thanks for the reply, good to hear you have done well.

I have had a look at Griffith College. Did you sit all your exams there?

From F4 onwards do you pay ACCA as they are PBE? Do you put in where you want to sit them then rock up to the centre? I thought the college would look for some sort of fee (tried to check it online but it wouldn't let me go any further as I hadn't done F1-F3 & emailed the colleges but still waiting to hear back).

Did you feel that there were any that might have been better learning from classroom delivery?

Sorry for the questions, just trying to get my head around it. I felt that maybe hearing from someone that has done it I would be able to get a better handle on it.

I done all of mine in Griffith so far as they have had the lectures recorded for a couple of years now and its quite useful if you miss any lectures. The part time courses are fairly tough they put alot of material squeezed into each lecture and you have to do alot of work outside of it yourself.

F1-F3 are manageable from self study if you have a decent grasp of the basics as they are multiple choice questions, after these three though you would be paying the ACCA per exam and you pay the college then if you are going to lectures.(They are quite expensive though they are about €750 per paper). I would recommend classroom delivery for the later exmas though as at least you can ask questions and get a better understanding of the tougher topics.

Hope it helps its a tough road but worth it in the end. :)
