    Hi lads,

Im just wondering there can someone quickly tell me where i could get a cheap fuel pump around cork? Ive a 2001 ford focus and its giving trouble and the mechanic said it might be the fuel pump. Or could i get a second hand one? I tried micks garage website but hes charging €232 . Would i get it from a scrapyard? any help welcome.

What's your mechanic charging to supply and fit?

You might want to figure that all out yourself, no point in turning up with a part, and it costing the same, or more than he was going to charge in the first place.

You should check the plug connection to the motor in the pump, the little terminals get corroded and stop the pump working.
Its fiddly to get the pump out you really need a pit or a lift, if you don't want to drop the tank and remove the filler hose etc.

"the mechanic said it might be the fuel pump"

Its a lot of money to spend on a "might"

You need to be sure its the fuel pump first.

Dont go wasting your money on a hunch. You"re better off spending it on getting a definite diagnosis, may be cheaper in the long run. Mechanic should be able to say if it is the pump or not. Its pretty basic stuff for an experienced tech.

I agree with the above, 'It might be this' or 'I think its this' can be translated roughly into 'I don't actually know what's wrong, I'm guessing at your expense'.
