holding both a permanent part time contract and a CID

    Hi all,
I am a nurse working for a voluntary organisation under the HSE. I have held a permanent part time contract since 2008. This contract works out at about 19.5hrs a week in one particular unit within our services. I have also held a temporary locum staff nurse contract since July 2008. As a locum i work in two other units within the same organisation. I have generally worked full time hours over the fours years employed by this organisation.
went looking through my paperwork and found 3 fixed term contracts, last one terminated on April 23 2011 and i have received no renewal contract since but have continued to work in the same role.
I have wondered last few months if i would be entitled to a cid contract in addition to my permanent part time post. Basically I want a 75hr a fortnight contract. I telephoned HR dept today and was informed as i already have a permanent part time post i'm not entitled to a contract of indefinite duration on my temporary contract.
I inquired with NERA and some other free legal/employment rights agencies and they thought that it does not really matter if i already held a permanent part time post but that it was a grey area! i was advised to contact an employment law solicitor which i may do but if anyone has any knowledge or was in a similar situation i'd appreciate any input before i go pay a fortune on a solicitor on what may be a wild goose chase.

First place to ask would be your union: health care is different to other types of contracts sometimes, and government healthcare can have rules that the rest of us have no idea about.

NB a "permanent" contract is a CID

I have never joined a union!! maybe i should now though!! i have looked up very source of information i can find online, and nowhere can i see in any legeslation/information a clause saying if you hold a permanent part-time contract your not entitled to a cid if you have also held fixed term contract for over four years.
its obviously been ok for me to hold a fixed term contract in conjunction with my other contract for the last four years so i don't see why i'm not entitled to my temporary contract becoming permanent also.
Has anyone been in the same situation and held 2 different contracts within the same organisation??
