Hi all. I enquired about sky multiroom for 2 TVs in the house (bedroom & kitchen) and it works out more cost effective than my current arrangement (UPC). They did say that I needed a landline phone to connect them both to. Nowe I do but I don't really want the cables trailing all the way from upstairs to the the living room. Is it absolutely necessary or do they only need connecting to get onto the interactive services?

Well, the reason multiroom boxes need to be connected to the phoneline is to stop you installing that box in a different address and basically getting a really cheap subscription for a friend or neighbour or whoever. I'm not sure how enforced this is, but I'm sure someone else can tell you.

You Do need the phone line,,as if they find out you don't have it connected, they will charge you the 2 full subs.

As christo says there,,it's to make sure you keep both boxes in the same house.

Who says you need cables trailing everywhere?

So from a hypothetical point of view...if I want to get multiroom viewing with sky and i don't have a landline in the house, it would be possible to do if I got my hands on a second hand sky box????

And before a MOD jumps all over this: I'm not going to do anything illegal, just want to know if this is actually possible??

No. You'd need a second card from Sky to activate the channels on it.

Unless your going to keep switching cards between both boxes,,or use the second box for the fta's.
