    About this new service.

I currently have a white sky+ box and a sky subscription which I've had for 10+ years. Is this box capable of getting the on-demand service? If not what do I need and what will it cost me? I was hoping sky might upgrade my box for free but I see there is a 60 euro installation charge!! For plugging it in???

You'll need a HD box, there's already a thread about this service.

€60 is ok considering you are getting the box for free.A 2nd hand box would cost roughly the same.

Ask Sky about a self install,I know they do this in the UK.

The box is free? I was quoted 259 Euro PLUS 60 euro install...

Box would be free for new customers.
You could just tell them you want to cancel your service,as you can get a better deal with UPC..
They usually offer to upgrade you free of charge.
    They don't like losing customers.

Might ask them, parents box is starting to act up, same box for a long long time

All it will cost you to ask is a phone call.

Otherwise you could just buy a second-hand sky+HD box and ring sky and ask them to pair your card with the box.

Then you could add the on-demand service.

I would have thought that Sky would be trying to encourage users to take up this offer not looking for a 10+ year customer to pay for the privalige.

I think they tend to look for new customers rather than offer anything to existing ones.
We're with sky for over 10 years also,,and never ever had an offer of anything from them.

I often get a letter about half price movies and sports, which I usually throw on for xams period... That's the most they have offered me, oh and they asked me last week to register my interest in their phone service, which I doubt will be anything great, I hear they are using the eircom network  But no new boxes.

Would they not benefit from asking people to take the new box for the new on demand if existing customers signed a 1 year contract, or 18 months for the 2tb box.... dreaming here...

Give them a call saying you're interested in what UPC has to offer and seriously considering moving. I'd be surprised if you didn't get a HD box out of it.

I cancelled my subscription and became a 'new' customer using Irish version of my name - got free HD box and no interruption in service.

Called there, no luck, starting going on about troubleshooting, said I needed to be home and its 100 euro call out. Will call at weekend to cancel and see if I can call their bluff!

Sometimes this happens on my box, I get the showcase only, what I do is I turn off the broadband connection and back on and it appears, also if my broadband is running slow it seems to not work...

    An update:

    Ordere package earlier.
Sky+hd box upgrade to hd for 12 months
    30 for installation
    "Free" box
    7.50 per month
    120 total

I suppose since my box needed replacing that's not to bad IMO.

Rang 3 different times and sales staff tactics and attitude toward the sale varied. Have to wait over a week for install. On the install is it just a switch out of the box or is cabling to be upgraded?

    Opinions on HD quality?

The HD quality is generally very good. Sky Sports especially looks great.
