    Hi All,

Unfortunately I was made redundant a couple of months ago and have been on Job Seekers benefit of €188 per week, I wasn't entitled to more as my wife was earning more than the necessary amount, I didn't think anymore of it but it was mentioned to me over the weekend that as my wife isn't being paid maternity pay by her company, she's just getting the base state maternity benefit and that we've a new baby I maybe able to get more, can anyone advice what I might be entitled to? Whether I can get it back dated and what I can do?

    Thanks folks

Firstly you are getting the max jobseekers you would not be entitled to more

You can claim for the child, go into your local office and enquire, think its 29.60 extra per child

Not sure what your wife is on but presume its 188 also

I think she's getting ~€260 a week. Do I have to wait for a PPS number for the child or can I go at any stage?

If I remember correctly I think you may need pps maybe someone can supply more info or just Google it, jobseekers child payment...I'm sure it will come up

As for what amounts you are both receiving, you are both on correct amounts and entitled to no more other than the child payment

Depending on the wife's income/hours she may now be entitled to FIS. She can apply now, even though she is on maternity leave. The waiting list for this is quite long, so if she thinks she would qualify, she should apply straight away.

As the family is now on SW (wife is not being paid a salary) they can also apply for a medical card, help with the mortgage and exceptional needs payments.
