Windows 8 - Issues with laptop power

I upgraded last week to Windows 8 and now every time I close the lid on the laptop it shuts down. When it boots back up it tells me that windows did not shut down properly? I've have gone through the power settings and all is correct. Laptop in question is a HP Pavilion dv5.
