    Hello,
I am thinking of taking up guitar, is it possible to teach yourself using the internet (youtube, sites, books)? Any recommended sites/youtube series?

Also what is a good cheap beginners guitar?

    Thanks

Yes it sure is. I'm learning two years now mostly from YouTube and books. There's a great site called www.justinguitar.com where you will learn lots. If you buy a cheap guitar and log onto his site you'll have enough to keep you going for years. Best of luck with it.

Agreed with justinguitar (search for him on YouTube under Justin Sandercoe). Search for Marty Schwarz as well on YouTube.

You can certainly learn to play the guitar online.. But it wouldnt do any harm to have somebody occasionally look at your picking technique, fretting and fingering to make sure that you arent learning things wrongly... Cos sometimes you might think what you're doing is right, and that you are matching what is on the screen, but this is not always be the case... And a third party may be able to help.

I've been learning online for about 2 years now, it was actually this tutorial I followed for a lot of the lessons then got bored with all the reading. Video teaching, I find it so much more fun.

Marty , he's a great teacher his videos are fun and he's just such a likeable guy, he does really good beginner lessons and is one of the most popular on youtube.

The website I use most of the time now, is this guy Carl Brown, he has his own site too but it's early enough beginnings so he doesn't have the amount of videos the likes of Marty or Justin, but I think he's been the best teacher for me as I can follow him so well and he teaches great.

Here's his site - For beginner stuff just click Lessons Archive and "Open Position Chords Part 1,2,3. That what everyone pretty much learns first.

Try a lot of related youtube links for teachers aswell cause I've found it a personal thing that I can simply learn better from Carl than marty or justin, so if you're struggling with one or not having fun find one you enjoy.

p.s: Never give up, the first few weeks are a nuisance if you don't feel you're making progress learn two chords that sound good together every day or so and play them together so you have the instant feel or something that sounds like music, it's the little things that kept me interested.

I'm completely self taught and i'm confident in saying i'm just as good or better than some people who attended lessons.
