Would all depend what the original fine was for.

Say it was for driving in a bus lane. And. They never showed up 4 court

In the absence of anything unusual (like Garda slept in or something) you were convicted and fined. Between 150 and 250 most likely. Would depend on judge.

They will be convicted and fined, the notice of the fine will be sent to them.

Not normally for a matter that is fine only. Bench warrant usually only issued if person may face a custodial sentence. If the person is worried ring the DC and ask what happened with the matter.

By not turning up you may get a larger fine than you would have got if you had turned up, apologised, etc.

If a person does not turn up most judges will double the amount they usually give to those that do turn up. Some judges on occasion and make an example will issue a bench warrant.

If this situation is a reality then tell.that person to grow up and face the consequences. Whether that person pleads guilty or not guilty is up to them.

My god when did people become so gormless and/or full of themselves that they have to hide themselves when something goes wrong. Even my 12 yr old knows he has to face consequences at times

Quite a number of ways. Eventually he'll have a Garda land at his door with a warrant to lodge him in prison for not paying his court fine.

If you did not pay (the 200 odd euro) once the penal warrant is issued.

This was the first time that it was brought to court

And it was ignored by the defendant. Someone should tell him that penalties only go up when you bury your head in the sand

Happened me for non display of a tax disc in a company car, never got the fine just a summons. When it got to court the Judge called me a liar saying I did receive the fine and fined me €350.00 for non payment. Previous week it was €150.00 and the week after €250.00 all for the same motoring offence with the same Judge , stuck up asshole too.

So is there a way of finding out or is it a case of just waiting?

You would be jailed for not paying a fine set down by the court, not for the original offence I would think.

It's likely he told the Garda to make sure you were cautioned in person before the next appearance.

Sorry but what does that mean? And what would b the point?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,857 ✭✭✭Reloc8

The summons has been adjourned. You wern't convicted in your absence. It'll be heard in March on that date and you're exposed to the fines mentioned earlier in the thread. The fine will be higher if you don't turn up in court.

Go to court. Get fined. Pay the fine.

    YOLO.

I think it means expect a knock on the door from the Guard.
